ISLANDS MARINE PROTECTED AREA CICLOPI

On the east coast of Sicily, which includes the stretch of sea that faces the small village of Acitrezza, the scene of the stories of Verga, was established in 1990, the Cyclops Islands AMP.


The reserve stretches along the coast from the cliffs Capomulini Catania and is divided into 3 zones:
- Zone A of reserve integrale
- Zone B of the general reserve
- Zone C of partial reserve.

Reserve in the area that comprises the whole island Lachea are prohibited:
• removal and damage of the geological formations
• navigation and motor stop any type of boat
• fishing (both professional sports) exerted by any means
• hunting, trapping, gathering and introduction of animal and plant species
• the direct or indirect alteration of the environment and the characteristics of the water
• the introduction of weapons, explosives, means of capture and toxic substances
• diving unauthorized
• bathing outside the set.

Over the years, thanks to the large Cyclops Islands, many species have been able to repopulate the area and this is an example of what can be done to safeguard our territory and return to the legitimate owners of their habitat.
