BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

Countless species living terrestrial and marine, with the vegetation that characterizes the AMP Island of the Cyclops.
Here some ...

Doing a small hike among the rocks of Lachea will not be difficult to meet the island's famous lizard, Podarcis sicula ciclopica, a species of lizard that, having been for many years isolated from his fellows, has developed unique characteristics such as the red spot neck and dark green stripes on its back. Still this funny and unique reptile is the subject of study of zoologists.

Podarcis sicula ciclopica

More difficult if not impossible, will instead meet with the spider, Urozelotes mysticus, currently known only on Lachea only.
There are numerous species of birds stationed on the island. Herring gull, Larus argentatus, recently it has even found a place convenient and secure way to lay their eggs. The chicks are greyish in color with brown spots mind the mature size is considerably higher than the common gulls, join length of 50 cm and the plumage is gray on the back and clear on his belly. The head is white and yellow beak with a red spot at the terminal.

Larus argentatus

You can also admire the cormorant, Phalacrocorax carbo, the peregrine falcons and marsh birds and other flying, swimming, fishing and pleasure stationed in the sea and on land of this beautiful island.

The sea still reserve many surprises, colors, life ...
Noting also the rocks you can see marine creatures such as tomatoes Actinia sea horses, crabs runners, Pachygrapsus marmoratus, the limpets Patella caerulea, and many other bright and colorful.

Actinia equina

And at the bottom of the sea, still life, still shiny and unique colors.
The starfish abound, from classic red Echinaster sepositus, five arms, which are found from the first meters of depth, such as those commonly thorny, Coscinasterias tenuispina, pale brown with six or more arms.

Echinaster sepositus

Another protagonist is the sea urchin. In the area there are several species, the two best known are the Paracentrotus lividus, vulgarly called female hedgehog quills that shows the color varies from yellow to red to purple and is a cornerstone of the traditional cuisine, Arbacia lixula, known as hedgehog male has quills bluish-black. Mistakenly these two species are confused in one, which is however different species, each with copies of either sex.
Other hedgehog is known of the prairie, Sphaerechinus granularis, which inhabits patches of Posidonia and has thorns dark red or purple from white tips.
Beautiful creatures, colorful but sometimes dangerous, such as a worm Anellidi as the dog, Hermodice carunculata. Pigmented in bright colors such as red and green. Do not be fooled by its seemingly innocuous strip while the rocks, because in the long hair is held back a stinging substance.

Hermodice carunculata

Other Anellidi, but of very different appearance, is the spirografo, Sabella Spallanzani, who lives inside a tube which is spirally with tentacles - hence the name - which are retracted at a high speed when approaching a hazard.
Among decapod crustaceans, the scarlet Paguro Bernardo, Dardanus arrosor kinds of blue eyes, is a shy tenant of shells now uninhabited, which makes it even safer by attacking above stinging anemones for defensive purposes.

Dardanus arrosor

And, finally, the fish. Cyclops in the waters they live a multitude, by looks, Obladi melanura, the bream, Diplodus sargus, from grouper, Epinephelus marginatus, to moray eels, Muraena helena and many others.
Among the many Mediterranean species, however, do not miss the unexpected exotic detail. To give the beautiful parrot fish, Sparisoma cretense, common in the waters and barracuda, Sphyraena viridensis, in flocks of many examples, not hard to find among the wonders of water Lachea. Quiet ... are harmless!

SPLENDIDE CREATURE
